Can Novelists Use Articles For Marketing?

I’m an elitist when it comes to literature. One of my favorite lines in literature is “Call me Ishmael.”

Many novelists and other literary types may look down on articles because they have no inherent literary quality. But that isn’t the point. Neither do book jacket endorsements, even if written by the most prolific and respected of authors. They’re just marketing copy – snippets of content that marketers use to sell books.

Articles are much used the same way. They are there for marketing, just like that slick magazine ad that sells books for Barnes & Noble. Publishing houses have long used articles to promote their authors and many have become best sellers for that reason. The ads aren’t great literature, are they?

Authors need to think about the 21st century and how marketing is done in the new millennium. Articles are one way that marketers today promote their work. Why should authors, novelists, and literary artists be any different? If you are a self-published author or an author who has regained rights to his work and wants to promote himself then you may be benefit from doing some article marketing. Aren’t sure where to begin?
