Make Your Keyword List, Check It Twice

Before you start writing articles you should do a little keyword research first. You want to come up with a good list of keywords – at least 200 or 300. That’s because you’re going to write a lot of articles. You might as well have your list laid out.

After compiling your list of keywords, start writing. See if you can write 10 articles a day. If you can write 10 articles a day and distribute them to as many directories as possible then you can drive traffic to your website. Can’t do 10? Do 5. Can’t do that? Do 3. Or 1.

The point is, the more you do the more you increase your chances of success. But before you can write you need a keyword list because each article needs to be optimized around a single keyword. Make your list first then check it to make sure your keywords are good ones. Never be afraid to add more keywords if you have to, or take away any that aren’t relevant. It’s important that your keyword list be a good one.

Is Keyword Research Necessary For Article Marketing?

Do you really need to do keyword research to conduct proper article marketing? It depends. Do you want your article marketing to succeed?

If you already have a list of keywords for which your website has been optimized you may not need to do additional keyword research, especially if you are writing your first batch of articles. What is important is that you marry up the keywords for your articles to the proper landing page that you intend to promote through them. Optimize each article around a specific keyword or keyword phrase then include that phrase as anchor text at least once in your author resource box and link it to the landing page. You should do that for every article in your marketing campaign.

But what if you are on your second or third phase of article marketing and you’ve gone through all of your keywords? Then you might need to do some fresh keyword research. Keep in mind that search behavior changes over time. Key phrases are searched often today may not be the same phrases searched for six months from now. It’s important that you use the latest data on keyword research and search behavior or you could be writing articles that are outdated and irrelevant. When you write articles based on the latest trends in search behavior you’ll make your articles more relevant and targeted toward the type of consumer that you want to reach. Just be sure to marry up the most appropriate key phrases in your article with the keywords used in your landing pages. You don’t have to rewrite your landing pages, but relevance means search behavior relevance as much as it does optimization relevance. Keep both in mind for the best article marketing strategy for your campaign.

Do Keyword Research Before Writing Articles

I’m amazed at how many article marketers do not do any keyword research before they start writing. They’ll pick a topic and just start writing with no thought as to what people are searching for. You can’t be successful with article marketing if you do not do this.

Keyword research not only keeps you focused on a topic that people are interested in, but it tells you which words are best for use in the articles you want to write. For instance, if you are a plumber and you want to write about leaky faucets it might help you to know that people use the keyword “kitchen sink” a lot. If you know that “kitchen sink” is used more often than “leaky faucets” then you can write your article around the keyword “kitchen sink” and still discuss the topic of leaky faucets. You will be much more effective that way.

The best article marketers do their keyword research before they start writing. They identify their top keywords before ever writing that first word. Then they write each article around a specific keyword related to their niche. If you do your keyword research first then you can write all of your articles at the same time and you will be much more effective in your marketing efforts.
