Bill Platt and I are competitors. We both write articles and do article marketing consultations for clients. But we are also good friends and we discuss ideas and help each other learn more about how to provide better quality for our clients.
In one of his articles he does a very good job of displaying the history of article marketing. it’s a very good read so I wanted to share it here once again.
Article Directory Owners Vs. Automated Article Submission Services
By Bill Platt
Article marketing has been considered a useful method of promotion on the Internet, since the very early days of the Internet. By writing an informative article, writers have been able to get their sales message read by millions of online consumers, through their resource box that follows their articles. Until 2005, the whole point of article marketing was for the purpose of attracting huge numbers of readers as a result of the articles being published in ezines that had a large reader base.

A lot of people do article marketing, but few do it on a consistant basis. If you want to build your brand, build your image, and build natural links to your website, then you need to do article marketing on a regular schedule.
Not everyone has the time to write their own articles consistantly. They write one when they are inspired or just whenever they have some time on their hands. This inconsistant method of article marketing will not get you consistant results.
At Article Content Provider we help our clients create a consistant article marketing plan that will fit almost anyone’s budget. Our article writers will write a specific number of articles each week or each month and we will even submit them to article directories for you.
Once you set up a consistant article marketing plan, you will get consistant results. Make sense? Click here to order articles or click here to contact us for a consultation.

With article submissions I don’t believe manual submissions should be done for every single article you write or have written. For most articles I think isnare.com is just fine. The article is submitted to a lot of publishers for you for just $2 per article if you do it yourself. If we do it for you, it’s just $4 per article.
But every now and then you write an article or have someone write the article and it is especially good. An article you are very proud of and want to share it more. Then manual submissions to high PR article directories is a plus.
It is important that you use an article submission service you can trust, so we have listed a few ways you can submit articles to directories where you can be sure your links and author bio are always included and that your article is actually submitted and received by article directories.
Be sure to submit your article to our own Article Directory in addition to the options you choose below. Google crawls our Article Directory daily!
Article Submission Options
Manual Article Submissions.
We manually submit your article to as many article directories as you choose for just $1 per submission, using your pen name under our own existing accounts.
We manually submit your article to as many Article Directories as you choose for just $2 per article, if you want us to set up an account for you at each article directory for you to use whenever you need it..
In either of the above options, you will receive a spreadsheet with full details. The link to the article directory we submitted your articles to, the date, and logins and passwords if you chose to have the premium article submission service where we created accounts for you.
The best single way to submit articles is by going to each article directory, creating an account, and manually submitting your articles to the directories. You can do this yourself. However, it is a tedious, time-consuming process you have to repeat for each article you write. In addition to that, each article directory you submit to may start emailing you . . . umm . . . “offers” for all kinds of things you may not want to buy. The good news is we can do this for you. We already have accounts set up for this purpose. Use the form below to contact us.
Isnare’s Article Distribution Service According to Isnare.com, they send your articles to over 150 article announcement/distribution lists. For around $2 per article, you can submit your article through Isnare.com. If we do this for you, we charge $4 per article. I use Isnare on all of my own articles. I use the manual submission for my best articles.
Contact us using the form here for help with article submissions.
Our email address is info@articlecontentprovider.com if you cannot use the form.

iSnare is often referred to as an article directory. Really, though, it’s as much an article submission service as a directory. In fact, I would say even more so.
What’s so special about iSnare is that the service distributes your articles to 40,000 article directories and websites for a mere $2 per article. That’s not a bad gig. When you consider that most article submission software that you purchase costs a pretty good penny and don’t submit your articles to that many websites, that’s not bad. But don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are getting 40,000 high-value submissions for $2. That’s really not the case.
Let’s say you write articles about real estate investing. How many of those 40,000 websites will be interested in articles within your particular niche? Mathematically, probably fewer than half. Maybe even less than that. But let’s just say that only 1/10th of them are. That’s 4,000 websites. Would you spend $2 to distribute one article to 4,000 websites? What about 400 - 1% of the total?
Crunching iSnare’s Numbers
Even if only 400 websites out of 40,000 are interested in your article, $2 a pop is a good deal. That’s 400 inbound links to your website. If only half of those websites lead to 5 additional publications of your article beyond the initial distribution, that’s another 1,000 inbound links, a good number of which will be from related websites, meaning you are getting good inbound link juice from those submissions.
Now, here’s the rub. 40,000 websites means some niche directories, some general directories, some foreign language, and some who knows what. Not all of the websites will be interested in your content. But some of them will be. And that’s what makes iSnare so special. Low-cost distribution across a wide network of websites.
Here’s the small print: No one knows which websites specifically are members of iSnare. They don’t reveal that information. But any website or article directory can apply to be a member of iSnare’s network and many general and niche article directories have done that. Article directories benefit by being members of iSnare’s network because some of them own directories for the sole purpose of benefitting their own websites with SEOd content. Articles within an article directory are not considered duplicate content so Joe Blow with his own article directory on his website can entice the search engines to visit his site more often and have thousands of pages on his website with the simple addition of an article directory and for no work at all get that content added to his site daily through iSnare submissions. In a word, it’s a win-win-win for all.

I submit articles to a lot of article directories and through isnare.com. A lot of the articles are my own, but most of them are ghostwritten for clients. Isnare and other article directories do an ok job of tracking how many views your article has had at their directory, but that’s where it stops.
Plus, once you submit to any article directory, how do you know where else that article was reprinted? Clients ask me about this all the time.
Sure, you can search for your article title in google and get a lot of results and sift through them to find which search engine listings are your article and which are just web pages that are related to the same phrase used in your article title, but is that the best method for tracking how well your articles are doing out there?
Submit and forget is the normal approach taken to article marketing. You just keep producing new articles and have “faith” in the system and that your articles are getting widespread distribution. For years, this was the approach I took to article marketing as well.
Since then, we have developed ways to do more with the content that we wrote or paid to have written for us.
For starters, those old articles you own and have already submitted are still good, useful content. You can continue to distribute them to other article directories they have not already been submitted to. You can offer them to be printed on other websites for a link back in your bio. You can break them into parts and reuse them on your blog as part 1, part 2, part 3, and so on.
The content you wrote or paid for still has value beyond the one time they were submitted to directories. How many articles do you have on your hard drive right now that you could be using?
Another method you can use is to place a tracking or serial number into each article. Use something unique as an identifier. Something with numbers and letters. Before you develop your serial numbers, search them in google and if you get a no results page, your serial number is perfect.
You can place the serial number into the actual body of the article or into your author bio. Anyone reading the article will ignore it, but you will be able to search google for that serial number later and you will start getting results that are your own.
With this method you can track which article topics get the widest distribution, track which websites and blogs reprinted the article after finding it in article directories, and which distribution method got you the most bang for your buck.
Stop guessing and start tracking and you will improve your article marketing results tremendously!

The article submission process is long and arduous. It’s a bit like an in flight movie. You can enjoy it but you might fall asleep a couple of times, get interrupted by the guy sitting next to you or the flight attendant taking your drink order, or you could just miss the best line in the movie because you were daydreaming and looking at the clouds.
Sure, you could get one of those mass article submitters and send your articles out to thousands of article directories - most of which won’t publish your article anyway. After all, why would a Croatian language directory publish your article on infant mittens written in English?
Should You Use An Automated Submission Process?
There are thousands of directories online but not all of them will do you good. That’s why you want to be selective in where you submit your articles. That doesn’t mean you just submit to one directory, but it helps to know the directories and to submit to the ones that will help you achieve your goals.
If you want to use an article submitter, I recommend a free one that allows you to create an author bio and upload your article with a push of a button. Don’t use one that makes you jump through hoops or that sends out a spam blast to every article directory online. If you’re going to do that, just sign up for an iSnare account and send them your articles. They will send them to 40,000 directories for you for $2 per submittal.
Still, even with the best automation process, article submissions can be time consuming, but there are still great benefits.
The benefits Of Article Submissions
Here are a few benefits to ponder:
- You can be a recognized expert in your field in a very short time;
- Publishers and editors of newsletters and e-zines are begging for content - they need your articles and they constantly scour the Web looking for good material to use;
- Every article features an author’s resource box where your contact information is located along with links back to your web site;
- Whenever an e-zine publisher or web site picks up your article, the search engines count each link in your resource box as an inbound link;
- Articles are a great way to drive traffic to your web site.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. You really do want to submit your articles to the directories. Specialty directories, niche directories, general article directories, you name it.
Which Directories Will Publish Your Articles?
Not every directory will pick up your article, of course. They all have their guidelines. Some are strict and some are not. I like the strict ones because it means they are interested in well-written articles. That’s what I like. The only caution I would issue is this: Stay away from those directories that will take anything. Article spam is about as annoying as any other kind of spam.
If push comes to shove and you want to submit your articles but don’t have the time, you can always hire someone to do it for you. But the one thing you shouldn’t do is ignore it altogether.

Thanks Faith!
I agree that manual submissions are to be preferred over most article submission software. But if you have a few favorite article directories you like to submit to then Article Submitter is a nice balance between the mass submitters that cost more than they’re worth and the do-it-yourself method of visiting every single site one by one.
You still have to submit to each article directory one at a time, but you only have to input your article once and it does cut down on your submission time. Article Submitter allows you to store your articles inside the software along with the login and password for the article directories of choice. But since you are only inputting this information once and submitting to each site within the software with just a few clicks it will save you some time. The software is a little outdated in that it doesn’t include every article directory available. In fact, some of the best and most popular directories aren’t included at all and some of the ones that are included show to have a lower PageRank than they actually do, but you can add directories manually to the list and you can download the Google toolbar to check the PageRank for yourself. The software is free.
Another method in the article submission process, if you prefer the mass submission route, is a service called iSnare. iSnare charges $2 per article submission and will submit your article to thousands of websites at one time. The websites and directories must sign on to receive those submissions from iSnare. Of course, not all of those websites will use your articles, but out of thousands that receive them your chances of getting a single article published in a hundred or two websites is significantly increased.
Article Content Provider will submit your articles for you manually or through iSnare. The service costs $4 per article if we submit through iSnare for you. We make no profit on this as we pay the submitter the additional $2 for her time. But we gladly provide this service to our customers and others who might consider our ghostwriting services. Note, however, that there is no additional purchase necessary to take advantage of the article submission service. But we hope you’ll see the value in all that we do that you’ll consider the other services we provide as well. When it comes to article marketing, we are sold on article submissions no matter how you choose to do it.

Let’s face it, article marketing is just like everything else you get what you pay for - or you get what you put into it. So what’s the difference between manually submitting articles and automatic submission? Exactly what it says; automated is fast, easy, cheap while manual is by hand one at a time, slower, and more time consuming.
Automated Article Submission -
There are many software programs and submission services that will submit your article to hundreds of article directories. They do this fast, some claiming to submit in minutes.
The drawback to this form of submitting articles is you are locked into specific information and that information may not match with the directory. For example most directories will ask you to choose the category your article best fits. Lets say you choose ‘construction’ but a particular or several of the directories on the list don’t have a category for ‘construction’.
This may not seem like much of a concern but what happens when you have paid to have your article submitted to 500 directories but 300 of them don’t have a ‘construction’ category? Your article has now been rejected by 300 directories while you have paid for the service. This is not a good return on your investment.
Manual Article Submission -
Whether you submit your article yourself or hire a submission service such as Article Content Provider with manual submission you or your submission service will know immediately whether your selected category is on every single article directory.
For example with the category of ‘construction’ with manual article submission if a particular directory doesn’t have a category for construction they can choose an alternate category such as ‘building’. When you pay for manual article submission you can be sure that your article will be submitted, and placed, on the number of directories you pay for.
If you want quality submissions of your articles there is no doubt manually is better. If you are simply looking to take your chances and play the numbers then automatic article submission may work for you.

There is no question at all that just about anyone can submit articles to article directories but there are a few simple facts you should be aware of. Yes, having articles listed in the directories will give you links back to your web site but for other websites or e-zines to be interested in picking up (using your article on their publication) you will want to watch out for the following points:
- Use your article title effectively. A catchy title may be cute but if it doesn’t let the reader know right off the bat what your article is about they most likely won’t read anything past the title.
- Do not write or have your article written like an advertisement. No one wants to be blatantly used as free advertising and if your article appears in this manner others won’t want to use your article.
- Whatever you do never ever include affiliate links in your article – you have to have one of the best articles in the world in order for people to pick up your article with affiliate links included.
- I shouldn’t have to mention this but I have seen it many times. If you don’t know how to spell make sure you use spell checker or have someone else edit your article before you submit it. Actually it doesn’t hurt to have someone else read it first anyways as it never fails you can read something a hundred times and will pass over the same mistake time and time again. If you don’t have a spell checker program there is a free one available at SpellCheck (www.spellcheck.net)
- Don’t over do it with your resource box. Yes, you can include and should a link to your web site but keep it to one link. Your name and a very brief bio should also be included but keep this pertaining to your area of expertise or writing and only a single sentence.
All of these tips will be covered in later posts but this should give you an idea of what to watch for in the mean time.
