How Much Knowledge Should You Give Away?

Article marketing is about giving away your knowledge. It’s free. You don’t charge. If you do you’ll lose readers and they won’t visit your website. Call it karma marketing or whatever. But it works. But it can also work against you.

There is a law of diminishing returns when it comes to giving away your knowledge. Give away too much and there is no incentive to buy the rest. There will be no more “rest” to buy.

It’s the same dilemma that marketers have always faced. Give away your knowledge. But don’t give away too much. Give away the farm and you’ve no place to live. So don’t give away the farm.

Here’s how to succeed at article marketing:

  • Give away just enough of your knowledge to make your reader want more.
  • Promise more knowledge in your resource box and provide a link where the reader can expect to get more.
  • On your landing page, sell the benefit of the reader giving you something (what works well here is a free e-book or other download that promises even greater benefit that your articles gave; ask for an e-mail address in exchange).
  • Use the e-mail address to establish a relationship with the receiver and start selling

Give away our knowledge, but make sure you get something in return.
