When it comes to article marketing, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. That first step is your first article. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be published.
While you want every article you write to have a certain level of quality attached to it, don’t delay the process until you understand it completely or you are confident you will do it right. If you do then you may never start marketing yourself through articles. Rather, learn as you go and improve the process as you learn more and more about how it works. That’s what all the successful article marketers did and that’s what successful people in every endeavor do.
Success is not something you can force to happen. It is something you can plan for and you should. But it only comes to those who take action. So take action and write your first article today.

Whether you use Google Friend Connect on your site or you sign up to be a member on someone else’s website, you can promote your articles through your Google Friend Connect profile. Every time you sign up to be a part of someone’s network with Google Friend Connect, you have access to all of their members and your profile shows the links to all the sites that you have joined. Same of all the other members. But you also get to add links to your own websites and anywhere else on the web that you want to promote. Why not add a link to an article directory where you have a profile and a lot of articles published?
By promoting an article directory with your articles and profile, you are giving interested publishers easy access to content they need for their websites and e-zines. That’s what article marketing is all about. It’s one more way you can promote yourself and build authority.
To find sites that use Google Friend Connect, check out Friend Connectified and look for sites within your niche.

The question arises from time to time, “Can you optimize one article for multiple keywords?” The answer, of course, is yes. You can.
But understand that you are better off optimizing your articles for two keywords and no more. You don’t want your articles watered down with useless keywords. At some point you’ll run into a diseconomies of scale on optimization.
We recommend you choose a primary keyword and a secondary keyword. Make sure that your primary keyword appears first in your article title and your article. Also make sure that it appears more often. But do include your secondary keyword in the article title and article body. This technique will give you plenty of optimization fire power as the search engines now use semantic technology, which looks at context to determine important keywords. When you offer two specific keyword phrases then you are telling the search engines that you have important information about a specific niche. This is a powerful way to market yourself through articles.

HubPages is a great way to market your business through articles. Unlike traditional article directories, when you publish an article at HubPages you are given a ranking based on several criteria that are important to the HubPages team. They look at traffic of your article, the traffic sources for your articles, the length of your article and uniqueness of the content, the number of thumbs up received from other Hubbers, and the overall HubScore of the author. Take a look at my HubPages profile page and you’ll see that I’ve earned the reputation of “Prodigy” with just three articles.
These are important criteria because they determine your reputation and trust factor at HubPages.
There are plenty of reasons to use HubPages for your article marketing. Besides building a reputation for yourself, HubPages articles are viewed by a lot of traffic. Because a lot of other people are using HubPages, you can build a solid reputation by networking with other Hubbers. But you’ll also build link popularity and inbound links to your website from your articles. Unlike traditional article directories, HubPages does provide link juice and every article is a potential inbound link for your website. And another reason to add to these is the ability to earn income through AdSense from your articles as HubPages has a revenue sharing program with its authors. You can also earn affiliate income through Kontera, Amazon.com, and eBay using HubPages articles.
So how many reasons is that to publish your articles at HubPages? Let’s count them:
- Build author reputation
- Increase your link popularity through inbound links
- Drive additional traffic to your website
- Earn AdSense income
- Earn eBay affiliate income
- Make affiliate income with Amazon.com
- Use Kontera for additional income opportunities
- Networking opportunities
If you decide to use HubPages for article marketing, be sure to upload original articles. That will increase your author reputation tremendously. In fact, if you upload the same articles that you send out to article directories, HubPages will penalize you so make sure you are publishing original content.
I would recommend uploading your articles to HubPages first then sending them out to article directories if that is your plan. Though I haven’t tested this, I suspect that you may get a penalty after HubPages discovers your articles later. It may not be as big a penalty, but I think it’s possible that it will happen so you are much better off publishing original content always. But HubPages is a great article marketing opportunity.

New Internet marketers may not understand what is meant by article marketing. Article marketing is the practice of using articles to promote a business, product or service. There are many ways to approach article marketing and some are more effective than others.
Directory submissions is just one aspect of article marketing. You can also submit your content directly to niche websites that you’d like be featured in. Other avenues for article marketing include free blog hosts, Squidoo, HubPages, and similar websites that allow you to publish articles on a revenue sharing plan or as a way to promote yourself and your business.
When it comes to online article marketing, you must use your imagination. Don’t get stuck in a rut.

Blogspot is often overlooked as a resource for article marketers, but it doesn’t take much effort to make it pay for you. One of the hottest properties online, Blogspot is a great resource for article marketers if you use it correctly and in moderation.
First, make sure that you use your own articles and do as many Blogspot marketers do and “borrow” other people’s articles only to deactivate the links then point people to their own properties. You can use the articles that you submit to the directories. Just be sure to activate the links in your author resource box so that you get the inbound links to your website. Here’s what you do and how you do it:
- Set up a Blogspot account
- Start a blog and upload one article with your resource box and link
- Wait a few days and start another blog
- Use a different article and upload it to your new blog
- Repeat this process up to ten times
I do not recommend having more than ten blogs. You don’t want to raise any red flags with Google’s spam team. But if you do this in moderation then you can build some effective back links with traffic. Be sure that you use a separate article for each blog.

Reputation management is one of the up-and-coming niche marketing areas for online marketing. The necessity of it is growing and already important. If you have not put together a reputation management plan then you should seriously consider doing so. It should consist of more than just article marketing, however, article marketing should be a part of your reputation management strategy. Here are your important action steps:
- Set up accounts at as many article directories as you can, including distribution services like iSnare
- Write as many articles as you can and distribute them to the article directories (this should be an ongoing activity)
- Establish a Squidoo account on a particular niche and include information related to that niche; be sure to link to your website and blog from your Squidoo page
- Write original HubPage articles and publish them at HubPages
- Write original articles and submit them to other websites in your niche
- Use Google Knol to establish yourself as an authority on your subject
- Publish your articles on your own blog
- At popular social networking sites where you have an account, publish your articles wherever possible; for instance, Ryze allows you to publish articles and Facebook allows you to set up Facebook Pages
The key to reputation management is to start before you need it. Don’t wait until you have negative information about you online. Constant reputation monitoring and management is key to maintaining a positive image online. Articles can very helpful.

Can you do article marketing through blogs? Yes. Here’s a good article that shows you how:
A Unique Twist on Article Marketing That Gives Your Site Massive Exposure!
By Sherice Jacob
Everyone interested in organic search engine optimization knows that article marketing is a great (and free) way to build exposure and get traffic to your site. But that’s not the only thing you can do to bring bucket-loads of traffic to your site. Another often-overlooked source of highly targeted visitors and potential buyers is this.
Writing “guest articles” on a related blog in your industry. It’s as simple as contacting the owner with a basic proposal. You agree to write one (or more) blog posts for them in exchange for the typical by-line at the bottom - and they get to take the day off from writing in their blog. It’s a win-win situation for both parties - and it’s free!
To get the most benefit out of being a guest author, you’ll want to be prepared beforehand. Here’s what you do:
1. Brainstorm possible articles you could write for the blog you’re interested in. It always helps to have a number of possible post or article ideas fleshed out as much as possible before you contact the site owner.
Who knows, perhaps one or two postings will lead to a spot as a regular contributor?
2. Craft your resource box carefully. This is the 3-5 line bio that appears at the end of your post. You want to drum up interest in your products with your bio, as well as showcase your expertise in the field. Not to mention sprinkling a few keyword phrases in for good measure.
So for example, let’s say Jane is a guest author for a blog about dog grooming, and she wants to promote her own dog grooming business in the bio box. Rather than writing something like: Jane Doe works as a professional dog groomer at Groomers R Us. Visit her site at example.com for more dog grooming tips.
As you can see, there’s no real incentive there to click. Instead, consider writing a more interest-generating resource box, such as:
Dog grooming professional Jane Doe runs example.com - selling top-quality dog grooming supplies and products to pamper your pet and keep them looking great! Visit our website for 10% off your order!
As you can see, a few generous helpings of targeted keyphrases along with a coupon code will help Jane create a lot of interest (and orders) for her site!
3. Have some samples ready. If the blog owner is interested in your site, chances are, they’ll ask you to provide some samples of your writing.
Even if you’ve never guest authored a blog before, have some sample articles ready to show them your experience and writing skills. It will go a long way in proving your credibility, showcasing your writing skills and maximizing your ability to communicate to an audience.
In the end, even if the blog owner says “no thanks”, there are literally millions of blogs for you to consider. To find them, simply search Google for “yourkeyword blog” - and replace “yourkeyword” with your type of industry, such as “dog grooming blog”.
Here’s to your success as a newly published guest author!

I totally agree with this article, but I have one thing to add. Make sure that you write original content for your guest blog article. The blogger is letting you use her real estate to reach her audience. Don’t be discourteous and submit rehashed articles that have been published elsewhere. Write original content that can’t found elsewhere.

How Can Article Marketing Help Your Online Business?
By Carol Aston
If you have an online business no doubt you have been told over and over again that you must write articles if you are going to succeed on the Internet. So how can article marketing help your business and where do you start?
Article Marketing is a great free advertising resource and will help drive loads of traffic to your website when done correctly and when you use the right article directories. There are absolutely loads of article directories on the Internet today but you will find the best results with those that have a page rank of 7, do not bother with those that have a ranking any lower than 5.
The first thing you need to remember when writing an article is that you cannot advertise in the actual article itself. what you need to do is give good information that is relevant to your business. For instance if you are running a restaurant you could write an article about dining out, as long as the information itself is related to your business, you’re well on your way.
Once you have written your article you have a resource box to fill in, this is where you can advertise, make sure you use your keywords in the anchor text for the the link to your website or even your blog. If you’re not sure how to do this or what to write have a browse through the article directory you are planning to post to and check out their expert authors and top posters, you will soon get the idea.
Another important thing that new authors sometimes forget is filling in their public profile. This can make a big difference and it will help you even more if you upload a photograph of yourself. If you use article marketing to promote your online business and do it regularly and consistently you will soon start to see a difference in the visitors to your website.
