How Much Traffic Can You Expect From Articles?

Article marketing has been around long enough to cause two reactions among those who’ve tried it:

  • There’s the swear-by-it crowd who knows it works
  • Then there’s “it didn’t work for me” crowd that have moved on to other things - like blogging and tire kicking

Frankly, I am a “swear by it” guy who believes it isn’t the only thing in the world that works. I like blogging too. Though I’ve never made any money kicking tires.

Those who know that article marketing works rely on it for two things: Traffic and links. While links are nice for helping you achieve great search engine positioning, links don’t buy things. People do. And that’s why you need traffic. But how much traffic can you expect from articles?

It depends. How much time and effort are you willing to put into it? Like anything where you can expect some ROI, how much you get out of it depends largely on how much you put into it. If you write one article per week and send it out to one directory then you won’t get anywhere near the return you’ll get if you write one article per day and send them out to 10 directories each.

If you really want article marketing to pay, you’ll have to do more of it. There are no article marketing shortcuts.

Great article. I am of the “swear by it” crowd although I suffer from periods of article writing burn out where I stop doing it for awhile, probably like most marketers.

So much of marketing is about psychology, not only that of your prospect, but that of the marketer or business as well. One of the psychological games you can play with yourself is to set a small, achievable goal for each day. For example, resolve to write one article a day and submit it to five of the best article websites.

To avoid not having your article published due to duplicate content on another article website, change the title and the keywords that the article is optimized for. Basically you want to achieve at least a 15% variance for each article. For a 500 word article, that means changing about 75 words in each article before submitting it to another article website.

I think article marketing will definitely help in increasing the traffic to your website as long as you pay more time for it. But as you have said this has been around for a long time now and people are searching for some new methods.
