If you Google my name, you’ll find that there are more than 2 million search results for Allen Taylor. In the interest of fairness and full disclosure, I’d like to say that not all of them are me. There are thousands of people in the U.S. with my name. I’m just one of them.
But the interesting thing is that out of 10 page 1 results on Google, four of them are me. The No. 1 listing is my personal poetry blog. As a published poet who has been blogging daily for 11 1/2 months, I’ve got quite a following on this blog and I’ve managed to move it up to No. 1 for my name. Given that my name is a very common name, that’s a pretty good achievement.
In position No. 4 you’ll see our sister site, Blog Content Provider. No surprise since I am the manager of that side of our business.
Two steps down is my profile at EzineArticles, where I am an expert author. Though I do not have as many articles published at EA as I’d like, I’ve got enough there it seems that just by Googling my name you’ll find me there.
Fourthly, all the way down at the bottom of the line, is a link to an Internet radio show where I was interviewed by Belinda Subraman for creating my poetry toolbar.
On the next page you’ll find my StumbleUpon profile.
The Importance Of Reputation Management
I share all of this not to boast of my accomplishments, but to illustrate how important it is to do some reputation management on your name (as well as your corporate brand or small business identity) and to use social networking, article marketing, and blogging as search marketing tools. I use them all every day and you can see the results I get.
Now, will people search for my name? I think maybe some of them will. It depends on what they want to know.
As a published author and poet, potential publishers may want to know a little more about me. They’ll be able to find it easily. If I’m ever unemployed (God forbid) then future employers will want to do a background check on me. Employers are now Googling applicants’ names to see what they can find. Potential clients, too, might have an interest. They’ll want to know just who they are doing business with and if they find something they don’t like, it could be a deal killer. Or how about potential creditors? Hmmm?
All of this is to say that if you have not started your reputation management strategy yet, now is the time. Don’t just approach it from a single mindset. Articles are good; I recommend them. But don’t rely on them alone. Use a multi-tiered approach to SEM and reputation management and monitoring to move your personal name and your company brand to the top of the search results so that you promote yourself in a positive light and keep the reputation killers out of your field. You want to be in control of your own image - no matter what business you are in.

When it comes to article marketing, there’s more than one way to get it done. Here are some ways to use your articles you likely have not thought of:
- Read your article into a digital recorder and upload it to your website as a podcast. Distribute it to podcast directories.
- Talk your article in front of a video camcorder and upload it to YouTube.
- After distributing your articles to your favorite article directories, start a Blogspot blog and use your articles to link back to your website.
- Start a Google Knol and use your articles, linking back to your site.
- Post your articles to a Squidoo lens or HubPage and link back to your website.
Article marketing doesn’t always have to be done through article directories. It pays to get creative.

Keywords, keywords, keywords. Everyone knows what they are, but very few article marketers really know how to make them work. You don’t want to stuff your articles with keywords. Too many article writers are doing that. Instead, you want to stuff your articles with great content and pepper that content with the rose doses of keywords.
What’s that mean exactly?
There’s no optimal keyword density. Let’s just shatter that myth right now. There are good articles and there are lousy articles. Most articles online today are lousy. But just a little bit of work can turn most of those lousy articles into good ones. But how?
First, stop putting your keyword into every sentence. That doesn’t help. If you can’t write a good article without keywords then you’ll write a good one with keywords. The most important thing for any article you write is for it to be a good article with valuable content aimed at your target market. Keywords are there for optimal performance in the search engines.
I’m not saying don’t include keywords at all. I’m saying use them sparingly, but aggressively. Make sure every instance of your keyword counts. Instead of using your exact keyword phrase every time you plop one down, alter it just a little so that you give a variation on the keyword. The search engines will still recognize it as a keyword and your human readers will enjoy the article more. It’s called semantic language optimization, or semantic search metrics. Whatever you call it, it works.

It may come as a surprise to some readers that the most important aspect of article marketing is not your list of keywords. Yes, keywords are important of course. You’ve got to optimize your articles to make them useful to publishers. But that’s not where the magic is.
The best articles in the world are articles that convey a sense of authority. The magic is in your authority. The voice behind the words. That’s why it’s always best if you can write your own articles. But what if you don’t have the time or you don’t consider yourself a writer? Well, you can still market yourself through articles.
A quality ghostwriter can help you hone your voice. You can actually enjoy success as an article marketer by having someone else write your articles for you, which you approve before distributing. You get to look over the articles to make sure that they reflect your philosophy. By giving ghostwritten articles your stamp of approval, you are essentially signing off on those articles and every word is an extension of your authority. Successful article marketers understand that and that’s why our business is growing.

If you have enough articles in your arsenal you can turn them into a teleseminar. All you need to do is extract the information in them and use them as notes for your seminar.
You’ll need to be able to talk about your information at length, however. You should be able to talk for 15 minutes about each topic you write about in one article. If your articles are organized correctly then they should cover one topic each. For a one-hour seminar, you’d need four articles.
Be prepared to go into a little more detail in your teleseminar. It takes just a couple of minutes to read an article, but in a teleseminar you can cover more ground in the same amount of time. What you want to do is pique the interest of your target market and keep them buying your products and services, or interest them in such products and services. A well laid out teleseminar can do that.
You’ll need to sign up for a delivery system. There are several teleseminar providers online. We use GotoMeeting. Take the articles that you will use for your seminar and make an outline from them. Highlight the key points of each article. Prepare for the use of four articles, but create an outline of an extra article in case you finish the seminar early. If you only cover four then that’s OK.
Make sure that when you market your seminar that you tell your listeners exactly what you will cover in the seminar. And if you market that you’ll discuss four topics, be sure that you cover every topic. Also allow some time at the end of the teleseminar for questions.
It’s a little more involved than this, but this is a good snapshot for what to expect when turning articles into a teleseminar.

This is what we’ve been teaching for years:
4 Easy Ways You Can Optimize Your Written Articles Besides Article Directories
By Kelvin Lee
Do you know that they are so many things you can do with your articles to drive you traffic?
Do you know that your articles are the most original content provided by you and only you?
Is your articles resting in your computer now after they are submitted to various article directories? (I bet it is for most of you)
Why don’t you put them to best use if it is your most original content created through your hardwork.
Here are the 4 Ways you can optimize the use of your articles
1) Small Reports: You can in fact select some of your articles that are related and compile them into small reports that can be given away to your prospects if they opt-in to your list. All you have to do is to create some links in your report and it will boost your website traffic like crazy.
2) Newsletter: You can also add your articles into your autoresponder as newsletter for your subscribers as it can provide them with great value and eventually build credibility for you.
3) Blog Post: You can use your articles as blog post and then submit your post to social networking site like digg.com to get more exposure. Do not worry, your blog is not going to be penalized by Google for posting articles that you have submitted to article directories.
4) Your product promotion tools: You can use some of your articles as your product promotional tools for your affiliates. You can instruct your affiliates to add one or two of your articles into their autoresponder and send to their list with their affiliate link on. This can in turn help your affiliate boost their sales.
These is what I usually do to my articles after I have submitted them to the article directories and I think you should do the same.
Now put this into practice and you will see the result soon.

ABC News is recommeding reputation management with guest author Andy Beal, only Andy doesn’t recommend article marketing. We do.
The reason article marketing is good for helping you manage your reputation online is because you can set up individual profiles in your name at each article directory you want to use. For every profile you set up you can establish a link back to your website. Although, I do agree with Andy’s suggestion to set up profiles in your own name.
People who are out to destroy your reputation online will likely use your name or your company name. That’s why it’s a good idea to have profiles at article directories for one or the other, or both if you can. Then, you want to submit regular articles to the directory so that your name is associated with a positive image as often as possible.

If you are a Twitter user then you might be interested to know that I now have my own Twitter account. Follow me.
Here’s a quick way to promote your articles on Twitter. Write the article and distribute it to your favorite article directories the way you do now. Then, in 140 characters or less (because that’s all you have on Twitter), promote it. All you have to say is something like this:
Cool article: (copy/paste permalink here).
If your permalink is so long that your message goes over 140 characters then you’ll have to shorten the message. I’ve gone so far as to simply say
Nice.
then listed the URL. That’s OK.
Twitter will automatically turn long URLs into short URLs. TinyURLs to be exact. But your message still needs to be 140 characters or less even with the long version of your URL.
I’m learning that Twitter is a cool promo tool. Of course, I’m just getting started. More Twitter tips (Twips?) are on the way.

I ran across a spammer who had taken an article I wrote and published it to a blog. They used my author resource box and that’s OK, but they also inserted nonrelevant sentences with nonrelevant links in the middle of my paragraphs in the article. So I had an article on pay-per-click advertising that had links in it related to truck tires and other non-PPC-related content. The pages those linked to contained AdSense ads. I reported the sites to Google AdSense.
If this happens to you, fill out a spam report with the search engines and also fill out a Google AdSense report for the site in violation of Google AdSense terms. The AdSense account holder will likely have their account suspended and they will not be able to get another one.
To fill out a Google spam report, go to Webmaster Tools and log into your account. You should see a list of your sites with sitemaps. On that page is a link for reporting search engine spam.
To report an AdSense violation, use the AdSense report form.
Each search engine and pay-per-click advertising company has their own report form. Log into your account and look for that feature to make your report. It is a little time consuming, but if no one reports these people using your content (and mine) in ways that are not acceptable then nothing will ever be done to stop them.
